Fabulous opportunity for law graduates and junior lawyers to join our Editorial Team

Developed by leading barristers from Erskine Chambers and a team of experienced corporate professional support lawyers from City law firms, FromCounsel provides a wealth of practical, in-depth, ready-made answers to the crucial questions facing practitioners in their day-to-day work. Our aim is to make our content more comprehensive, more insightful, more accessible, more searchable and more sharable than anyone else in the market. With well over 100 subscribers including leading law firms (from the Magic Circle to regional teams) and in-house legal functions, we are now moving on to the next stage of our development by expanding our established Corporate Law service into other areas of law.

The opportunity

This is a fantastic opportunity for motivated law graduates and junior lawyers with a flair for writing and analysis to join our dynamic online company in newly created roles at an exciting phase of our ongoing development. Successful candidates will be writing and assisting in the production of premium quality content, and participating in other exciting new projects, in an innovative, friendly and flexible working environment as part of our enlarged Editorial Team.

Job description

The Legal Editor role is a varied and interesting one, offering significant scope to play a part in the further growth of our ground-breaking legal information service as FromCounsel expands, updates and enhances its content.

Key responsibilities include
  • Writing, reviewing, editing and proofing high quality legal copy, consistently applying FromCounsel’s unique approach and style

  • Working in close collaboration with our talented team of experienced in-house PSLs, barristers and other legal experts and specialists, including reviewing and converting expert copy into house style

  • Legal research and proof-reading

  • Monitoring legal developments and keeping the FC Legislation service up to date

  • Writing draft coverage of News features and tracking case law and other developments

  • Writing draft key point summaries of relevant judgments in close liaison with PSLs

  • Testing and liaison with our Development Team on website technical solutions and enhancements

  • Basic content coding and troubleshooting using html and xml

  • Supporting the build out and expansion of our service into other products and areas

Key requirements

The ideal candidates will be pre or post -pupillage/training contract, or otherwise have a background in legal editorial work, although other backgrounds will be considered.

Key requirements are:
  • A minimum 2:1 degree or equivalent qualification

  • An exceptional standard of written English and meticulous attention to detail

  • Excellent research skills and ability to sift documents for points of commercial interest

  • Good IT skills, including a working knowledge of Word and Excel and an inquisitive attitude towards unfamiliar programs

  • Excellent organisational and inter-personal skills with proven ability to work pro-actively to tight deadlines and to manage competing demands

  • Flexibility to work in a dynamic and fast-moving environment and to react quickly to developments

  • The desire to learn new aspects of wider subject matter relevant to the FromCounsel product and an ability to pick up new concepts quickly

An interest in Company, Commercial, Employment or Restructuring and Insolvency law, would be of benefit but not a requirement for these roles.

Applications

These roles are full time and are based at our central London office, with flexibility to work remotely on some days when appropriate to the needs of the business. Salary is circa £35,000, depending on experience.
